Hello everyone.
I've decided to start this blog to avoid clogging up everyone's Facebook's with updates on Isabelle, with her health updates. :)
Isabelle has been diagnosed with a seizure disorder and developmental motor delays.
She had her first MRI just after her first birthday, and it showed she has not developed the myelin sheath over many of the nerve passages in her brain. This may be because she is simply behind in developing that sheath, or that she may never develop them. That would more than likely mean Cerebral Palsy. We also saw a small subarachnoid cyst in there, but our Neurologist, Dr. Raja, says not to fret on that just yet. So we are not worried.
We saw Dr. Raja this past Friday, and even though Izzy's current seizure meds have caused her to lose almost 2 lbs (down to 16.11 from 18.6), we decided to keep her on it. Her last bloodwork shows it is straining her kidneys slightly, so we are going to put her on another medication to make her system less acidotic (evens out the Ph that is straining her kidneys). So we are now on 75mg of Topamax a day, as well as the bicarb. Don't know the dose on that until I pick it up from the pharmacy later today.
For the weight loss, we are upping calorie intake big time! Mixing vanilla pudding with her baby food. And making that vanilla pudding with Carnation Instant Breakfast! We did this for the first time last night, and she slept all night, very content! :)
In spite of all of this, Izzy is thriving! She is trying to feed herself with a spoon, playing with toys with BOTH hands (big deals there!) and just in general really happy and incredibly smart. She got her first tooth last weekend, and has another coming any time now. I cannot wait to see her with the little toothy smile, though I will miss the gummy smile! <3
Until next time, be blessed, and enjoy every day!
